چکیده

K. Nowacki, P. Musiał, T. Lis Silesian University of Technology, Department of Metallurgy, Katowice, Poland Acoustic steel processing in an ingot mould may be the fi nal stage in the process of quality improvement of a steel ingot. The impact of radiation and cavitation pressure as well as the phenomena related to the acoustic wave being emitted and delivered to liquid steel aff ect various aspects including the internal structure fragmentation, rigidity or density of steel. The article provides an analysis of the mechanism of impac t of physical phenomena caused by an acoustic wave aff ecting the quality of a steel ingot.

Solidification and thermal performance analysis of the low carbon steel during the continuous casting process

The present paper evaluates the effect of the nozzle characteristics on the heat transfer and phase change of the low carbon steel during the continuous casting process. A three-dimensional energy equation and a solidification model are used to drive the governing equation of the phase change and temperature distribution. A linear relation is obtained to predict the temperature-dependent of the...

Modeling and Simulation of Heat Transfer Phenomenon in Steel Belt Conveyer Sulfur Granulating Process

Complex heat transfer phenomena (including unsteady state conduction, convection and solidification processes) occur in steel belt conveyer sulfur granulating method. Numerical simulation of this technique is performed via a comprehensive and multifaceted one dimensional model. Since the air situated between the adjacent sulfur pastilles is essentially stagnant, therefore, the surface tempe...

A New Mechanism of Hook Formation during Continuous Casting of Ultra-Low-Carbon Steel Slabs

The initial stages of solidification near the meniscus during continuous casting of steel slabs involve many complex inter-related transient phenomena, which cause periodic oscillation marks (OMs), subsurface hooks, and related surface defects. This article presents a detailed mechanism for the formation of curved hooks and their associated OMs, based on a careful analysis of numerous specially...

A High Order Approximation of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Wave Equation with Discontinuous Coefficients

This paper concerns with the modeling and construction of a fifth order method for two dimensional acoustic wave equation in heterogenous media. The method is based on a standard discretization of the problem on smooth regions and a nonstandard method for nonsmooth regions. The construction of the nonstandard method is based on the special treatment of the interface using suitable jump conditio...

Influence of Ultrasonic Treatment on the Structure of High-carbon Steel

Specific qualitative requirements force steel manufacturers to strive to obtain ingots of the highest quality available the measure of which are on one hand, the cleanliness and homogeneity of chemical composition of steel, and the largest equiaxed zone on the other hand. Nowadays, a decided majority of steels is manufactured with continuous casting with structure homogenisation through electro...
